Time for Print is industry jargon used to describe the symbiotic relationship between photographers and models. Emiliano Granado’s solo show by the same name, offers viewers an uncomfortable seat at a series of time for print photo shoots with amateur models from the website “Model Mayhem”. A networking site for aspiring models and photographers Model Mayhem is the forum where people striving to achieve their fantasies of becoming the next Kate Moss or Steven Meisel may or may not come into fruition. Granado shot dozens of models he cast for his shoots from the site for his solo presentation, and while the show is undoubtedly a diamond in terms of artistic achievement—the amassed portraits of aspiration, vanity, and exhibitionism are decidedly rough.

Born in La Plata, Argentina, Granado now lives and works as a professional photographer in New York City. His fascination with “celebrity and exhibition” is explored through the volunteer participation of the scores of amateur models from all ages and backgrounds that line the walls of Eyelevel Gallery in Brooklyn. Humorous, bizarre, vulnerable and exotic; these portraits reflect the unique and projected reality of online communities. Presented in a series of large format instant film (Polaroid) photographs, the viewer can sense the strange intimacy shared by Granado and his models. Granado’s work brings internet voyeurism and the subjects’ lonely ambitions into focus.

Originally from Argentina, Emiliano Granado now lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. His work consistently revolves around an examination of Popular Culture. He has exhibited in various group shows and has worked for many international clients. He’s currently angry at the Internet for what it’s doing to photography. He’ll get over it, though.

ABOUT “TIME FOR PRINT”
Time for Print (or Trade for Print or Test for Print, often abbreviated TFP, and sometimes also called Print for Time or PFT) is a term used in many online photography communities describing an arrangement between a model and a photographer, whereby the photographer agrees to provide the model with an agreed number of pictures from the session and a limited license in order to use those pictures in return for the model’s time.
